/ Rep. Louie Gohmert

Uncle Fester

Considered to be the dumbest member of Congress, Louie Gohmert has a litany of moronic things he has done and said over the years.  His many “Uncle Fester” moments include joining a federal lawsuit against metal detectors immediately after the insurrectionists stormed the capitol on Jan. 6th. He has continued to worship at the altar of Trump, and he even asked a US Forest official if we could alter the orbit of the moon to ameliorate the effects of climate change.

Just control the moon

Having spent his career being one of the leading climate-change deniers in Congress, it seems like Uncle Fester has finally come around to accepting the reality.  That’s right, he now believes that the earth is warming and his solution – having the US Forest service alter the orbit of the moon.  He claimed that small task would have “profound effects on the climate."  Well, Uncle F, no, that is not how it works. NASA scientists were actually forced to respond saying that the moon's orbit is "not producing the changes we observe in our satellite and climate records, including rapid warming and CO2 (carbon dioxide) levels that are unprecedented for millions of years.” NASA added that “scientific evidence shows that human emissions of greenhouse gases, primarily through burning fossil fuels and land use, are driving climate change now.”

Stoking the flames on Jan 6th

Uncle Fester actually sued Vice President Mike Pence to compel him to not certify Joe Biden’s Presidential win, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. When the federal courts threw out his farcical case against the VP, he then went on to tell his supporters that, “Basically, in effect the ruling would be that you have to go to the streets and be… violent.”  A week before the insurrection, he literally told his supporters to violently clash with capitol police and brake into the Capitol, while he tried to stop President Biden’s certification.  Back in November, he said he sees revolution as an option after the election.  At any other time, we would have called that treason and fomenting the insurrection.

Covering his tracks

More than six months after the election, Gohmert has lead the Republican efforts to rewrite history and downplay, obfuscate and outright lie about what happened. He suggested that Speaker Nancy Pelosi was responsible for the riots on Jan. 6th.  He suggested that Federal agents were the architects of the insurrection and contrary to all evidence claimed that ANTIFA and BLM activists may have been behind the insurrection.  These attempts to rewrite history are as deplorable as Gehmert himself.
